Emily Wigutow is from New York City and has worked in the food and yachting industry for the past twelve years. She began her career in the food industry working at Dean & DeLuca and subsequently as an event planner for several catering companies in The City.

Five years ago Emily landed a job with the organizers of the Louis Vuitton Cup and began organizing regattas instead of parties!

In June of 2004 Emily opened Max’s Market! The Provisioning division of Max’s Market will bring together Emily’s two loves: Food and Sailing!

Things to do

Pick up a copy of Newport This Week, Newport’s free weekly newspaper; it will list all of the special events for the week.

Or stop by the Gateway Center (Visitors Bureau and Bus Terminal)

Shopping Hours – generally shops open around 10AM, Sundays will be later. Weekdays most shops will close around 6pm, weekends around 9pm.

The Mansions are a must see - go and be a tourist for a couple of hours. Buy tickets at the Gateway Center or at the mansions.

Try a ghost tour, a great way to learn your way around town and learn a little bit about of our history – go on a foggy night “spooky!”.

There are some great walks & hikes in the area – you can walk to Cliff walk which takes you along the back side of the mansions and follows the water line, it’s easy and gorgeous! (Also good for a morning/evening jog)

The Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown has several different woodland, field and rock hikes – make sure to end up at Hanging Rock!

Swimming in Newport

First Beach
is a “short” walk from town, swimming is great, but watch out for red tide!

Second Beach is also nice – go to the far end or try

Third Beach, a bay beach with no waves at all. Don’t swim in the Harbor and listen for beach closures.

Newport has a few good surf breaks – Cliff Walk or First & Second Beaches can get a nice swell – call 841-5160 for a surf report… watch out for the red tide (algae bloom - smells awful!)

Windsurfing is usually done at the beginning of summer as the wind dies off to much to be consistent, however, there is a rental shack at Third Beach all summer.

If you Kite board a good place would be Second Beach, its getting popular here.

Kayaking in the harbor is fine, there is Kayak rental in Jamestown.

A bike or a scooter is a must it’s a nice way to see the beaches or head around to Breton Point to see the kites.
